Booking park days

Is the only way to book park days for next year is to do so once you’ve got your tickets?
Our tickets were for this year and then could travel, so we never paid for them in full, we’ve changed them to next year, but even at that you usually get them a few weeks before the holiday
Am I right or missing something, don’t want to not be booked in and then not get into parks

We purchased our theme park tickets through Virgin. We had to pay for the tickets in full before we could allocate park days. Due to go May 2021.

We have booked our tickets through Virgin too. Going Oct/Nov next year and just had to pay a large deposit to be able to book park days.
