Mortgage Rates

Hi everyone.
Our mortgage is due for renewal.
I prefer fixed rate payments.

What do people think is going to happen with regards rates over the next 5 years? Go up or down. It’s already pretty low I think. How much lower could they go?

(I hope this doesn’t come across as a should I buy my dollars now type question.🤣 )

No one knows, but you can get a good idea from the offers available. So given that, I cant see them moving much anytime soon.

I think this is what we are going to do. Especially in these uncertain times. 🤗

honestly, I'm clueless with this stuff. We just moved to a bigger house and bigger bills so fixed for 5 years, I can handle it if it drops a wee bitty more but I'd have been more annoyed if I didn't fix and it went up.

You can guarantee it will go up as soon as I’m needing a new deal. 😂

I don't see that they can go any lower. We're fixed in for 5 years with Barclays - our first 5 year mortgage, but the difference between the 2 year and 5 year was negligible.

It was negligible for us also.

We’ve been with Santander for a few years now and they’ve always offered us competitive deals. Much better than what I’ve found when comparing on comparison websites so I’m quite happy to stick with them. Saves me a lot of hassle.
Much better than when trying to renew insurance.😂

We fixed end of 2019 for 7 years as the difference between 2, 5 and 7 wasn't much.

I think if you can get a good deal you are happy with then fix. It really can't drop much lower. Think we got 1.65%. we have a large mortgage (for north west and compared to wages) so even a slight increase would be big.
