THE BIG 40 Coming speeding at me TRIP... Crusing...
Ok, so not really speeding at me as it is another year away. However you can never plan too early. EASTER 2022 I turn 40, and I wanted to go to canada/alaska, however upon further research that wont be possible.
So I would like peoples recommendations for cruises leaving florida that are not as beach centric as some others. My family aren't big into the beach but we do enjoy authentic cultural experiences. Are there any recommendations out there. We are also going to tie in with a Universal Stay and a few days on I-Drive Thanks lovelies. I have missed you since our last trip in 2019.

Do you have any preference of cruise lines? How many days of a cruise do you want? Most cruises out of Florida in April will be 3/4 days to Bahamas and private islands; 7 days which take in the above plus some nearer Caribbean islands and 10/11 day cruises which will go further south to Barbados or the ABC islands. Some 10/11 cruises will do a partial transit of the Panama Canal.
Most Caribbean islands offer beach or cultural tours as well as activity trips like zip lining or rainforest hikes etc. If you give more info, I’m sure we can offer more help. Edited at 05:27 PM. |

I feel all cruises leaving Florida really are pretty Beach orientated (nature of the area) but the ones that go to Key West are probably slightly less. Couldn't you simply go a little later as the Alaska/Canada season starts in May. I know its not the same as being on holiday for your birthday but if thats what you had your heart set on. I turned 40 in March 2020 and managed to get out to Tenerife for my birthday just before Lockdown 1.0 started which was nice but didn't feel like a real birthday so I'm celebrating again this year on my next cruise instead.

We are trying to fit in a trip at the easter holidays (also happens to be my birthday) as I would want to leave DD who will be 14 then behind. July and August dont appeal to me for Alaska, would want to go May or September to see the cooler nights etc. So I am very happy with a 4th Florida trip.

A starting point would be to research which cruise line would suit you - they're all different, some cater for an older demographic, some for families, some lively with all the bells and whistles others top dollar luxury, etc. There are some threads on this board that go through the characteristics of each line or Cruisecritic has a section which gives an overview. Next would be itineraries and price. Sign up to Vacationstogo - it gives a good overview of itineraries and prices, but be aware that not all cruise lines will allow UK residents to book with a US agent. At the moment we are booking cruises direct with the cruise line to give us maximum flexibility for cancellation amendments.
Choice of cabin and location on the ship is a very personal thing - we are ok with the ship's motion so don't mind cabins on upper decks front or back but others go for mid ships on lower decks where motion is less. Scrutinise deck plans to see what is next to, above or below your choice of cabin - avoid cabins below or above noisy public areas or next to crew service areas. Also carefully check out 'inclusive deals' and cost the individual elements separately - we find some inclusions are not for us and it's cheaper to 'pay as you go', particularly drinks packages. Others will find all inc packages great value. |

Makes sense. As Omega1 said, do some research to identify the type of cruise you want to do. Some cruiselines for example offer gambling at sea which might be something you are interested in while others like Disney don't.
I like an inside room as I'm never in my room that much anyway especially on shorter cruises. I'm there for the ship and ports so having a balcony isn't a big deal to me but for some people (like my parents) they hate the idea of cruising without a balcony. Once you decide on room type then location is easier in all honesty as it narrows it all down.

It may not jump out as a first choice of destination but how about the Panama canal. Weve done this, it stopped at ft Lauderdale, Aruba, Costa rica then through the canal which was amazing. I thought I'd be bored but no way, I was like a kid! . Then the other side of Costa Rica where we did a huge zipline over the rainforest, then finished in San Francisco.
It was a great cruise |

The only thing I would say is Panama Canals tend to be restricted on dates but its a great option if there is one over the Easter period. I haven't done one yet (got one booked in November) so this is great to know! I have yet to start looking at things to do
