Been toPalm Springs twice and have stayed in the RanchoLas Palma resort and th e Riviera hotel. Both good, the first had great rooms overlooking a golf course but was a bit of a way out of town. The Riviera is a retro place with a 50’s glam vibe, still a little way out but not far

First time in PS we also stayed at Best Western Las Brisas for 4 days, would certainly go back there . Second time we stayed at Residence Inn by Marriott in Palm Desert for 5 days . A really nice hotel with humming birds and roadrunners around the pool area !Both times in May really hot but we both loved it and up Mount San Jacinto a lot cooler , lol.
We love the Palm Springs area and see it as a place to relax in amidst an hectic holiday.

It will be very hot but also very doable - I visit every August and still walk about comfortably as it’s a dry heat and most main streets are misted to some extent. The one thing to bear in mind during the summer is some of restaurants close (it is very much the low season and they take the advantage of being no visitors ) and same goes for attractions - eg the Tram closes for around a month to 6 weeks for annual maintenance then (it depends on what they need to do and find so time is often a bit longer than the website advises)
I am going for a month this summer - it still has its charm and I have done all the “tourist” things so relax and catch up with friends plus I love the heat ! |

It’s very central (but no longer a hard rock hotel - been sold and re-named but was open when I visited PS earlier this month) but there is a lot of construction work taking place around that area at the moment - 5 new hotels being built including a new casino and a heritage culture centre (which will be huge !) - In addition a ice hockey pitch and several one way roads being made 2 way but that should be completed by spring

It will be hot but stay somewhere central and you can do without a car very easily (unless you want to venture further like to Joshua Tree) - I don’t use a car there and walk or use Lyft (much cheaper than Uber in PS) even in July and August the dry heat means everything is doable and there are some amazing walking tours of say architectural homes or movie colony plus 2 fabulous art museums in central area and the air museum is either a visit and you can even have a short ride in a bi-plane or one from WWII for around $99. All the restaurants and bars seen to have crazy deals during the summer months and makes dining out incredibly cheap (eg sitting at the Bar in LuLu has an amazing menu and same food as restaurant but at a fraction of the cost - plus sitting at the bar can mean actually sitting at the bar or at a table for 2 or 4 in the bar area ! )
