Probably depends where you are sat on the plane. If you are some of the first off then there will probably be no queue at the auto gates - we haven't had to wait more than 2 minutes there for the last few returns to Gatwick.

Waiting for the bags is another matter unfortunately...

We always seem to be last off the plane, we waited for about 45mins in a queue last year so have decided for the price it's worth testing out

We have used it the last 2 times. Purely because there was an enormous queue once and it was pretty miserable first thing after landing. Since then it has always been quiet but we have chosen to pay in advance, less worry and stress when you land. All comes down to what’s “value” to you...
I would do it again just to be sure, but I will do anything to avoid a queue
