What next to try get a holiday refund for last may ?

My MIL booked and paid for a holiday to turkey for last may 2020 but was cancelled due to COVID ...she booked it through teletext holidays ... I’ve rung them emailed even wrote to the CEO to no avail ... She paid via her debit card with Yorkshire bank so we went through the bank to try get the money back that way ...but because so many days had passed that was unsuccessful as well .does anyone know if there is anything else we can do please £2000 is a lot of money for her to lose thanks x

Here is a link

gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money

We threatened a company with it about 20 years ago and guess what that was enough and they paid up. Send a letter recorded asking for refund within 7/14 days or else taking to court and hopefully they will cough up unless they have gone into liquidation/administration, not sure what happens then, sorry.

Also look on Martin Lewis website as very good info on there for stuff like that especially in the current climate. Good Luck

I have just been reading some of the reviews on trustpilot. Unfortunately it sounds as though you are not alone.

Sounds like recorded delivery registered letter and on to small claims court is the way to go. And poss soon.

I hope your mil manages to get it sorted out.

Other thing I noted was that lots of people implying Teletext holidays had been refunded by the original provider but just weren't passing it on. It might be worth finding out when the company your MIL was going with refunded them. But don't wait til you get that info back. Send the registered letter today.

Assuming you are in England, small claims court is not scary. It is quite easy to do but you need to follow the steps. First step is getting the paperwork in (the cost is a sliding scale depending how much you are asking for), then there is a "mediation" part which is free and might work for you (most large companies fold at this point). Finally there is the "court" if mediation does work - you need to pay for this bit, it isnt court though, it is in a smaller chambers with a judge you and the company representative.

The judge knows you arent legal and generally you set out your argument as best you can and they counter, there isnt any shouting or overly fancy legal speak. I took British Gas to small claims as they messed up our billing, wrong meter, wrong readings, wrong address - all three - when I moved out of a house. They were adament they were in the right. I had pictures of the meter and MPAN and moving out pictures to prove otherwise, it took the judge all of 3 minutes to deliver in my favour. BG had to pay the money they took plus interest plus costs.

Citizens advice have loads of information, I went to CAB in Penrith, they helped enormously. I needed the money at the time but I donated the "costs" back to CAB.
