im with gryff, always go with your card to pay if they don't have a mobile card machine far too many cards get cloned out there and pay tips in cash as some cards will put a shaddow payment on to cover the tip

We found chip and pin was more prolific on the west coast. It's all about the various banks working together* and deciding who pays for what. The set up is not quite the same as it is at home. And I don't let anybody walk away with my card. If they have to go to a terminal I go with them!

When adding the tip - it's the sub total (without tax) thatyou tip on NOT the final amount.

*This is why you get charged at ATMs. The banks take a view that if you are not one of their customers why should they give you a free service? Thankfully some ATMs can be found that don't charge.

I would pay on your magic band then pay your room bill with the credit card. I won't be handing cards over to be taken away. Anywhere.

Don't let the card out of your sight, if necessary say that you will go to the till.
