COMPLETE: Live - Beauty and the Feast - September/October 2019

Following a post-trip food report last year, I’ve decided to go all out and do a live report this year!

We fly direct to MCO on 26th September, staying at Gatwick the night before. It’s just the two of us going again (me (Beauty ) and my boyfriend, W (the Feast )). This is our third trip together (my fifth trip ever, and W’s fourth).

First we are staying at Coronado Springs for a week on the DDP, which we’ve not done before. We booked free QSDP but upgraded to DDP as we want to do Cali Grill brunch which is almost equal to the upgrade cost in one meal! We have a $100 gift card and will waive mousekeeping for another $60; we aim to use them for tips, and possibly some cheeseburger egg rolls and cocktails Then for the remaining nine nights we are in a poolside room at Cabana Bay. We stayed there for two weeks last year and loved it (particularly the Volcano Bay entrance), so it only felt right to return. During this part of the trip we will be focusing on the Universal and Seaworld parks, but we may head back to Disney for a day or two. We’re also doing HHN.

The food plans are:

Week 1 - DDP

TS credits
  • Flying Fish
  • California Grill Brunch
  • Narcoossees
  • Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’

Potential QS
  • Be Our Guest lunch (we also have breakfast booked, but are considering cancelling)

  • Casey’s Corner... including the famous plastic cheese dip

  • Columbia Harbour House

Potential (definite) snack credit uses
  • FOOD AND WINE

  • Flame Tree BBQ fries... yum

  • Mac n cheese from Eight Spoon Cafe
  • Mickey crispy treats...

  • Cookies n cream funnel cake
  • Night Blossom... instagram in a cup

Final 9 days

Potential meals
  • Hard Rock Cafe
  • Cowfish
  • NBC Grill... mmm black n blue kettle chips

  • Bubba Gump Shrimp
  • Panda Express
  • Moe’s... can you tell we like cheese sauce yet?

  • Cheesecake Factory
  • Denny’s
  • Red Lobster
  • Margaritaville... how many can these feed?!

  • Giordano’s

Wow, gave me a surprise to see this near the top of the list. I did a report called Beauty and the Feast a couple of years ago and thought someone had suddenly resurrected it lol. Great minds think alike, look forward to reading yours

Omg! I thought I’d checked all of the report records for the title as I was conscious not to repeat anyone. Sorry... I’ll try and make it worth it

After seeing reviews of the burgers at the new Restaurantasaurus Burgers and Sundaes experience, that has also been added to the QS list

Pre-travel day

...and finally, we are off! We arrived at Gatwick at around 8pm this evening, did twilight check in and then went to the Nicholas Culpeper for some much needed food. Neither of us had eaten since 1pm and we were both starving! The original plan was Giraffe, but we couldn’t be bothered faffing around trying to find it when we had already stumbled on the Nicholas Culpeper.

Here is the menu in case anyone is interested. You might need to zoom in a bit!

We decided upon two toasties, one tuna mayo and one chicken and pesto. They both either came with salad or fries. Obviously we chose fries. There’s only the one photo of them as they literally looked exactly the same!

We halved them so we could each try some of each toastie. The tuna was my favourite but both were good. The chips were also nice but silly me saw a bottle of brown sauce on the table and thought it was bbq sauce as it was in the same style bottle they serve the bbq sauce in turtle bay - no, it was actual brown sauce which I hate. Luckily I managed to scoop it up with several napkins but definitely got some strange looks!

The bill including soft drinks was £21 which we thought was really reasonable, especially for airport food. When W returned to the table after ordering he had failed to bring the receipt back with him - tut tut - although I hadn’t actually told him I would be photographing receipts for dibb purposes so I’ll let him off!

We are now safely tucked in at the Premier Inn A23 Way. The room is nice and spacious and the WiFi works well. The bed seems comfortable too but the real verdict on that will come tomorrow, when we will be waking up bright and early for our Virgin flight. There will therefore be some plane food updates later in the day tomorrow, and perhaps some breakfast before we board but we’re not really breakfast people ordinarily so no promises!
