Following on from the university reopening thread, how is everyone’s children feeling about the possibility of a late start to their second year?
Georgia is desperately hoping Bristol will start at the end of September. The university has said they hope to, but it will depend on travel restrictions at the time, and online teaching, staggered start dates and limiting intake are all being considered. Georgia has to pay her first rent payment on 1 July and it seems hard for them to have to pay 52 weeks rent and only have half the tutoring time yet again 😔 We also still have to go at some point, when the university says it is allowed, to pick up her belongings from her halls from last year. It’s all such a mess 😢 Georgia is still following her lectures online and doing coursework and has her exams in June, but she feels she’s missed so much lab work and field trips which are an important part of her course. She’s also missing her friends although she is keeping in touch with them but she really hopes she can return in September. Obviously we don’t want her health at risk, so we want things to be safer before she goes back and no one knows when that will be. I would imagine no university will make a decision on this too soon, so we won’t really know until September 😔 |

DS thinks they will start online for his university but things could change a lot. Especially as, at the moment, there are zero local transmissions there. We will see. He has applied for halls but they are cheap so not a big issue. We will book flights nearer the time - though we have to get him home first. Very difficult to sort out flights for his return as things change daily. As it stands the flight us flying to the UK but we are in France and there are no direct flights here as yet!
What will be will be is my current motto!

I’m hoping that they may have online lectures for the first term but could have some practical lab lessons too. Although this wasn’t in the list of ideas they are looking into.
That’s excellent news that there are zero transmissions in Hong Kong now, I guess thinking of that means that the UK could be in a much better place by September too so fingers crossed for safe reopening. I do hope your DS can get back to spend the summer with you, I can imagine flights may be a challenge but hopefully things will improve by the end of the month xx |
