Mobile Indirect flights and duty free

Hi,
Travelling tomorrow indirect.
Heathrow to Detroit then Detroit to MCO

As I’m going indirect does this mean I’m not able to buy duty free? I’m not sure if I will touch my hold luggage after Heathrow? Sorry, haven’t done this in a while indirect so needed some advice

Thanks in advance

You will have to pick up your luggage in Detroit take it through customs and then put it on belts the other side for your flight to Orlando so you could pack your duty free into your hold luggage then.

If it's with same airline company your bags will probably go straight through to MCO.
I was wondering the same question tho. I'm travelling Dub-newark-mco, and wondered if I can buy booze in Newark to take to Orlando.

I thought they went straight through because it’s all with the same airline

As flying from Heathrow you will have to collect your bags and re check them in at your first point of entry into the USA and clear immigration.
I would then put any duty free in my case that is going in the hold.

As Loopyloo has said you will have to clear both immigration and customs at the point of entry into th U.S. That will mean you will pick up your luggage on arrival then after customs place it back on to the baggage transfer belt ,this gives you the opportunity to put any duty free into your luggage for your onward flight,I've done this in the past flying from Glasgow to Tampa via Philadelphia .

It will be different for you as you are fying from Dublin, so you will do immigration at Dublin that’s why your bags will go straight through, as for duty free you can take this through on a connecting flight.
As long as it’s sealed, max is 1ltr.

Hey All,

As others have said. We bought our duty free at Heathrow, once in Detroit had to collect our bags and I checked with the gentleman loading our bags back on for our next flights and he told us NO LIQUIDS. He said just tuck them in the hold before he took them. No weight applied. We flew Delta.

In Heathrow all staff we checked with (3 of them) said 100mls is fine no problem!

I just wanted to post to update. Thanks for all responses.
