Today’s Questions - VE Day
Churchill described them as the generation that never gave up. Do you think the younger generation of today really appreciate what that generation endured and achieved?
Secondly, (Dibb “Fish Police” enforced edit! 🤣 Anchovies Yes or No? Edited at 07:52 AM. |

I don't think what the WW2 generation did and achieved even features on the radar of the younger generation. That's not a criticism though
Anchovies. Vile. Edit. How many today know the youngest UK citizen to die whilst serving was Reggie Earnshaw. He was just 14 years old.

No and absolutely no. It's not 'correct' to look back and be proud of what people achieved then.

For the majority I would say no. Can you imagine if they were to be called up or even volunteer now.

I think it’s natural that the further away we get from it, the less that there will be an understanding of living through the war. It’s mainly now something they will learn through history rather than hear about personal experiences. Every generation has hard times and easier times and it’s all relative to everything that’s been experienced, so I don’t think it matters that they won’t necessarily “appreciate” what our veterans did for us.
Are the fish whitebait? Definitely not for me! Just seen they’re anchovies - still a no from me! Edited at 07:44 AM. |

No but I don’t think anyone who didn’t live through it understands and appreciates that generations sacrifice and achievements. It is not just the generation of today, it’s probably anyone under 70.
Anchovies - yes love ‘em ! |
