Question Any kitchen / appliance fitters out there? Need some advice please :)

Hey all,

We need a new oven.

I have drawn this conclusion through extensive technical testing, and without boring you with the long winded geeky reason as to why we need a new oven - it's borked.

It's taking almost an hour to warm through a Holland's pie to anything resembling edible temperature. When you have a wife who's from Wigan, this is far from satisfactory.

It's not the element btw. I swapped that out within the last 2 years and I can see it glowing nicely in the back. Not the fan either which spins normally at the back.

It could be other electronic temp controls, cut outs, etc but to be fair the thing is 12 years old, so maybe it's time for a new one?

And so, on to my quizical question...

Is there a standard size / dimension to a built UNDER oven?

Ours was fitted into the kitchen when we moved into our house as a new build.

It is an electric oven that sits underneath a gas hob. The oven stretches down to the bottom panel or skirting board in the kitchen units.

Thing is...

When Ive looked up new ovens, and even short listed a couple, the dimensions don't seem to make sense.

According to the dimensions for my current oven, its around 700mm tall. Yet the ones Im looking at are nearer 800mm.

Confused

Can anyone help me out?

thank you

I'm not a kitchen fitter but had a quick look on ao.com and they seem to have them. Are you definitely searching for built under, rather than built in? I've found ao.com brilliant to deal with. They are quick to deliver and very helpful at sorting out problems.

OP. When you say built under I assume you mean the type that just slides between two units namely one each side? The worktop with a cut out for the hob is right over the oven?

I'm watching tv but will measure mine tomorrow albeit I know it's an 800 width.

Worth having a look at Cooperative Electrical, very competitive

A built in oven will be housed within a cupboard housing below the hob and a built under under is a bit taller and sits between 2 cupboards usually on metal support brackets. One thing to be aware of is your gas pipe may need altering if the shape of the rear of the new oven differs greatly from the existing one.

A standard built in oven is built into a Oven housing unit thats 600 mm wide ( or 60 cm wide )

thats the benchmark size for width

Now the height is the variable, you will have have a rough standard size of 600 mm, now this can range from 600 - 850 mm ( the 600 being a single oven )

of course when you are fitting a new kitchen, you can get the blanking covers to cover any gap at the bottom ( or top and bottom ), a small Pan drawer etc etc the list is endless

But as you are replacing like for like and not changing the kitchen around, look for a similar size as the one you have OR check your " housing unit " and see what cover trim / drawer you can remove ( as that will be between 200 and 300 mm ) you could always then just drop the oven runners ( they will be metal ) to suit the oven you buy

BUT for ease, look and try and get the same size

I suspect you're looking for something like this

ao/product/uha83cx-hotpoi...-33870-48.aspx

Need to search for built under not built in, and just check dimensions.

that would fit in the standard housing space, a double oven will use up all the space and not have any infill / drawer space under the oven
