Bit of a long shot but can anyone read x rays?
Can anyone here help with reading an x-ray of broken/fractured ankle?
My DD lives abroad and has fractured her ankle yesterday, she is being given conflicting advice from different doctors, and is in a bit of a state as to what to do, she is thinking they are just after insurance money. So is there anyone on here whom if I sent them pics of her x-rays could give me their opinion? She is missing our wonderful NHS and the treatment she is used to Thank you x

To be honest anyone who is able to do that as part of their job would not risk there professional standing by giving an opinion to random person on internet. Its not just looking at an image its also about the context the image was taken which they would not have access to.

Yes I understand, but the thing is yesterday she was told it was a simple fracture, now today she is being told she needs surgery and a plate and pin?
I have good pics of the xrays so was really just hoping that someone could maybe just say yes or no to the surgery, just to give me an idea really. She has asked for a 2nd opinion which she will be getting on Saturday from an US doctor, as she is in the UAE and had the impression this morning that the plate and pin was just quicker rather than waiting for it to heal on its own? so really not sure if the surgery is needed. Its just so hard being so far away and feeling pretty useless.

No I dont think that would be an option, as her insurance comes with her job, its very good and will cover everything but I think to contact them about this would be too complicated, nothing is straightforward over there.

You can get a private consultation by email with some consultants. Find a recommended consultant orthopaedic surgeon and call him secretary. If you email the X-ray to them they may be prepared to give advice or advise an appropriate course of action

Thank you for that, definitely an option.
Have just spoken to DD and she now has 2 appointments to see 2 separate private orthopedic surgeons on Saturday in Dubai, so have everything crossed that she gets the correct diagnosis, and if she does need surgery to get it done asap. In the meantime i will get a few more grey hairs

Its pretty normal here to get different opinions on x rays , especially after the x ray has been re examined by a consultant . Ankle breaks are nasty

Many factors to take into account when Dr makes a treatment plan.
Age of patient/ bone & physical health/location of fracture/treatment time/risk of other complications. Plus so much more. Ankle fractures can be a pain in the ... It's so much more than just looking at an x-ray. |
