Mobile Uber - bad reviews

Just downloaded the Uber app for our trip to Orlando and New York next week. However, I read the reviews on the app store and Trustpilot and I am now wary of adding my card details and using Uber.
The reviews are awful, overcharging, taking large amounts with no reason, double charging, rude drivers and terrible customer complaints department.
I know lots of Dibbers use them so surely they can't be this bad? Can anyone reassure me? Also, should I connect my credit card or my Paypal account if I do decide to go ahead?
Thanks

I have never had an issue with Uber in Orlando . We got overcharged once and I emailed them and the difference was back with me within hours. The drivers business depends on the reviews so I have never had a rude driver. I usually link mine to my paypal

Be very suspicious of hyper-critical posts. There is some evidence that disgruntled taxi drivers (of the fully licensed, highly trained and ludicrously expensive kind) are filing fake complaints to turn people away from Uber. Rather like some restaurant owners who make fake reports about their rivals on TripAdvisor. One way to make sure you won't have an issue with overcharging is to link your Uber account to PayPal.

My husband suggested the reviews were false. There are so many bad reviews, I cannot believe anyone would use them if they are that bad!
Thanks for the reassurances, I will link to Paypal for extra security.

I know little about Uber but I have a photgraphic memory! I cannot recollect more than 1 bad post on here about them and lets be honest us Dibbers say it as it is.

used them last year and they were fab
Carlos one particularly good driver said they all are registered with Uber and Lyft - but please use Lyft as they pay better rates to the drivers. So I'm gonna use that this year.

When Uber started it was such a genius idea - its not taxis - its like giving your mate a lift (it fit in with all the eco baloney at the time too)

But every negative review ive read has been dissed as coming from a rival proper taxi firm as they cannot compete price wise. All the negative things could also be said of any proper taxi firm too!

In Glasgow the council have made every driver get a taxi licence so theres no real benefit here but in Orlando they are half the price of mears.

From a business point of view the guy who started it has just stepped down - as with all great entrepreneurs hes a bit of a loon ball and now the company is worth $80bn expect big changes and improvements in service - starting with now being able to tip the drivers

Thanks Planebuddy,
I think I just panicked when I saw the reviews.

Did you use Uber from MCO? I have heard conflicting reports about whether you can or not. I will get regular taxi if I can't get Uber but as there is 5 of us plus luggage, we need UberXL or a large taxi.

Used uber from CBR to Hotel row to collect a hire car and back for the middle week last year - this year will be using Uber/Lyft for all our offsite activity.

not long now plane buddy

caved and got the security passes for Manchester £4 each - just to be sure,

I've used Uber for a few years now, one particular driver took us a long detour in his cab. When the charge was processed I complained to Uber and the corrected the fare to something more representative of the shortest route. Good service I think
