2018 Virgin reward seats

Hi

Just wondering how everyone is getting on with booking their Virgin Atlantic 2018 flights using miles. There was a great thread last year but can't find one for this year. We're hoping to book for August 2018 and the dates should be opening up in a couple of weeks. Has much changed from last year? One difference I've noticed is that you can't book online if you have children in your party. When I booked last September (for this years flights) Virgin had a miles sale on and I got a great deal - no sign of a sale this year yet? Would be interested to see how everyone is getting on 🙂

Thanks for the reply- I think you started the thread last year! That's good to hear about availability, I've been checking every day as flights have been released and haven't seen any availability online. Was starting to panic a bit!

I've booked reward seats for Feb 2018 but there was zero availability until about 4 weeks ago.
You just have to keep checking and re-checking
I will say that reward seat availability seems to be much less than it used to be since the changes they made to the Flying Club a little while ago
I've only booked reward seats for years now and have really noticed a big drop off in the number of reward seats kicking around

We've booked for May/June. But for the first time ever we've had to go indirect via Atlanta. There just hasn't been availability for UC direct in May since our dates were first released. However I did get Atlanta from Manchester when the offer of 70000 instead of 95000 was on and we got Delta flights onto MCO and back from Fort Myers for 25000, so it didn't cost us any more, just time. I have continued to check the outbound everyday in case I could change for a direct flight, but no joy so far.

I've booked my outbound to Washington DC, and should be able to book my inbound from Atlanta to London tomorrow. Flying Club were really helpful, they have reserved our outbound seats so I won't actually pay with my miles until I know the return flights are available. Fingers crossed they are released tomorrow!

Yeah I did. And it was such a useful thread - especially re the taxes!

Give them a call - each day if you have to. Around 6am was when I got mine.

It was a great thread and helped me a lot as we were booking using our miles for the 1st time. Yes, I'll be on the phone every day, just wish they'd announce a miles sale like last year!

There was a Reward Sale this time last year which made booking the reward flights for August 2017 really good value, (think it was roughly a 25% discount to about 30k miles return) but since then I have noticed they have changed how many Miles you need depending on when you fly. Before it was a flat rate of about 37k miles which was then discounted in the Reward Sale. Now it looks like they have an Off Peak return rate of 25k miles and a Peak return rate of 45k miles . Of course the peak rate covers the 6 weeks holidays ! . So with this change I don't know if they still do the Reward Sales or not ?
