Think I’ll leave blank as I have a couple of accounts but never use them and don’t even remember my login details.

It is defiantly no longer optional.

Not optional now.
More than that, you cant just leave it blank. You actually have to say that you have NO SM accounts.

Definitely the part that swayed me to offer up my social media handles. Not something I’d like to try and lie about at CBP.

I laughed at someone else talking about their ESTA submission; that they didn’t know what was worse, admitting involvement in genocide or handing over their Reddit history.

Applied for my ESTA this morning and the social media questions are no longer optional, or you tick the box to say you do not have social media accounts.

Approval came through in an hour.

What happens if you have no social media when applying for the esta but then 6 months later get Facebook or Twitter etc do you think I’d need to update the esta details?

I think you’re overthinking it. The answer to that would be No.

I just went in to check the update options and it's still only contact details. So I don't think it matters if you open them later, only that you are submitting correct information at the time.
