I don't know if it's this or not, but an HGV driver who called into 5Live on Friday said that the supermarkets were hoovering up a lot of drivers with better pay offers, presumably recognising the shortage and wanting to protect their own business interests.

If that's the case, it could lead to a steady reduction in the number of drivers available to the traditional petrol companies, and maybe it just reached breaking point last week where they didn't have enough people to reach all of their stations.

Double bonus- no queue at recycling centre this morning, guess every idiot is queuing for petrol
We went around the back way yesterday morning. They let us through via the exit road, which is dodgy as you can't see whats coming round the corner by the petrol station. Tesco shop & parking was half empty. DH filled up on the way home Thursday rather than leave it till our normal saturday.

Might be wrong.
If I'm right then why has this not been an issue during the last 2 years
And can the hgv drivers coming over from the EU take up the reigns if without the correct license.

Yes my brother has a HGV license and he said you need to have a different license to be able to drive a tanker. It’s all to do with carrying liquid and stoppage times and distances etc are a lot different to HGV’s.

That's what I love about the dibb. Your correct.
It feels so much longer since the vote to leave the EU. Strange this year has flown.
Doesn't change my point. Why the sudden loss of these drivers in the last 2 weeks.
Personally I think the same amount are here driving as 2 weeks ago but the difference is scaremongering and frightening the public has caused this temporary fuel delivery.
Guaranteed to be back to normal in a few days once people are fuelled up and don't need fuel for a few weeks.
Not denying the lack of drivers. It's the same in many sectors.
It's time we started upping people's wages and conditions. Encourage people back in work

Shelves in our supermarkets have been empty in parts for months - things like water, and certain frozen products just not there

We only have two petrol stations in our town and both have closed as they don't have any fuel

It’s back to normal round here already - just driven past two garages, no queues and operating as usual.
