One of the reasons often mentioned about why Disney invented fastpasses was to get people out of the queues and into the shops where they would spend more money. Looks like Disney got that without needing fastpasses at all. All they needed to do is sell special edition merchandise.

I'm sure Disney is now designing the special merchandise it's going to sell at Epcot's 40th Anniversary next year and Animal Kingdon's 25th Anniversay just after that. People might not be happy to pay for Genie+ but they do seem happy to pay for some pretty "limited edition" plastic tat.

He's all about increasing profits made by the company by giving their customers stuff that they want. That's what all CEOs should be about.
Oh .. so customers wanted free fp taken away and on-site perks cut so they could pay for it? Must have missed that one.

I was talking about the special merchandise. Y'know the whole reason why MK was stupidly busy the other day and yet hardly any of them were going on rides. Those customers wanted merch, not attractions. Bob is happy to give them what they want.

Also, what customers want and what the company wants are two very different things.

Bob's the CEO of the company. He's not the CEO of the customers. If he can give us what we want - wonderfully themed parks and rides and lots of themed merchandise - whilst getting us to pay for FPs or other perks and not noticeably reducing the number of guests then that's good, from the company's point of view. We get want we want (the parks and all the great stuff in them) whilst Disney gets what it wants (more money from us).

The best merchandise I ever received was my "1st visit" badge which was free.

After years of dreaming I was finally there!

The whole merchandise thing is an eye opener. My sister went to WDW a few years before me and warned me about coming off rides and straight into the shop hold onto your kids and your purse

Over the years we have bought some lovely things (less now the kids are older) but they will never mean as much as that simple badge
