Its so difficult 😞 I really hope he finds the perfect place 💕
I remember when my son was in year 6 and his teacher said (at parents evening) that they can always visualise what her pupils will be when they grow up and she could see my son being a labourer. He asked what a labourer was and she said that its someone who carries bricks for the brick layer on building sites.
My son was heartbroken, he was absolutely devastated and really believed that this statement was a fact and set in stone. He still has a wobble about it now to be honest.
This is the same teacher who said that Max is lovely however its like the lights are on but no ones home when trying to talk to him 😤

Awful - teachers are supposed to have the highest of aspirations for their students (and by this I am not saying labourers are not valuable workers.)
Clearly not all students can be rocket scientists or brain surgeons, but they can have that hope - it will be naturally tempered and probably change anyway from primary age.

Omg how dare she ! That is so insulting .I'd have been livid! ...our son has a lovely sweet nature ,but can then also be quite violent when in sensory overload ...at the moment he's looking at Animal care as he's so good with them, and slso gets a lot out of being with them... our children may not be the cleverest but they are perfect in their own way ❤

Oh FT that is so awful, I don't think I would have been able to hold my tongue had she said that to me. She is totally in the wrong profession. Teachers are supposed to be encouraging and help a child fulfil their dreams and aspirations. What an absolute cow.

She actually got pushed out a year later, I certainly wasn’t surprised.
A part of me wants him to succeed just to spite her to be honest.
In fact, even with all his difficulties he is much more capable than my daughter who is extremely intelligent. He likes to be prepared, everything spot on and in order. She us just plain lazy 😂

We’re looking at 6th forms at the moment too. DS is thinking of Maths, Physics and Computer Science. He’ll probably stay at the school 6th form which makes life easier as he can carry on getting the school coach and the teachers already know his strengths (and weaknesses ). He’s at an all boys school but the 6th form is co-ed and they get a lot more freedom than the lower school.

We’re booked into the local 6th form college opening evening the week after next. My sister’s 2 girls went there and did really well but then they don’t get distracted by computer games etc, so were very good at focusing on their course work. They were also capable of getting themselves there and back on the bus at different times of the day!

It’ll be interesting to hear what he thinks after we’ve looked round.

The thing is FT, he would probably be fantastic in a role such as a firefighter because they have to be very prepared and methodical in their approach. All kids are so different and with different attributes, a good teacher would recognise and nurture them. I really hope she isn't teaching any more, her comments could be so damaging to kids.

That’s disgusting- I’ve just made a complaint about a teacher in my sons mainstream school ( before he was removed to a PRU before he was diagnosed with ADHD and autism) - who told him - in front of us he would leave school with a handful of meaningless qualifications and he would no doubt read about him in our local paper in years to come - crushed his confidence and I believe has caused massive anxiety.
They have no right .
My son has just started at a mainstream college and is trying very hard but it’s a massive leap and it will take years for him to get over that one statement .
I do hope you find somewhere suitable -Every child deserves to reach their potential and believe they are a valuable member of society .
