More info on potential FP+ changes

Just read an interesting article on the Pirates and Princesses Blog about possible FP+ changes that I thought might interest people. Not saying they will happen or how reliable the source is, but it's an expansion of what's being discussed currently in regards to paid fast passes.

"What we’re hearing is that Disney is preparing to launch a new FastPass system through their Genie app. But this is not as simple as just the old FastPass+ system where you pick up some FastPasses for the day and maybe grab more later once they become available. Instead, what we’re hearing is that the Genie app will allow all guests to pick up a single FastPass for the day. Then, if you want to have more FastPasses, you’ll need to purchase three “wishes” from the Genie. However, we’re also hearing that some Disney resorts will offer three free wishes as a part of staying there… that it is some Disney resorts makes us believe this will be exclusive to deluxe, or deluxe and moderate resorts.

The wishes part of the program we’re hearing about is what makes things a little complicated. We’ve been told the wishes are not just limited to FastPasses. So you could use your group’s wishes all on getting additional FastPasses, but you could also use a wish to grab special fireworks viewing locations (availability required). You could also use a wish to have a special meet and greet opportunity. We’re not sure the full extent of the wish options, but as of this past spring, we think Disney has been planning for something more than just a FastPass substitute.

With the Genie app, you’ll still be able to manage FastPasses, and we believe you’ll be able to use “wishes” to grab FastPasses. For the most part, this will likely work just as the old FastPass+ system in which you select an attraction and it tells you when to show up at the queue. However, what Mickey Views probably caught wind of was a new InstantPass option. The idea here — and again, this is subject to change — is that guests can select to receive an immediate FastPass, but they’ll have to choose from a bundle of attractions. One bundle mentioned to us was the Mountain Pack: guests wanting an instant FastPass from the Mountain Pack might receive a FastPass for Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, or Space Mountain. Another was the Thrill Pack that featured Rock’n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, and Slinky Dog Dash. And while we say “instant”, it’s likely to be on some sort of small delay or else attractions could easily be overwhelmed.

We also believe that the plan has been to allow guests to purchase three wishes per day if they are not staying at a resort where the extra is included. So guests staying at value resorts or off Disney property could still purchase this feature. And, if guests used all their “wishes” on FastPasses, it could be that guests receive up to four FastPasses per day. We’ve heard that the Genie App may offer extra FastPasses later in the day for free if they become available (such as on low attendance days), but we don’t know that for sure.

Take all of this with a grain of salt: we expect some of this to be rolled out into the final product, and we expect some of it to not make it through testing. People have been wondering when the new FastPass system might be available, and our insiders have suggested it is likely to be public before the end of the year. That’s noteworthy because it may indicate Disney will not be ready by October, when many are expecting them to push it out again. But another interesting thing is that, depending on how difficult it is to get the new FastPass system out there, Disney may be somewhat forced to go with the old system in the interim. The reason for that is due to capacity limits being increased… the parks are not really designed anymore to function without FastPass if capacity is returned to the old normal.

One thing seems certain as we wrap up this article. While there will undoubtedly be a free component to FastPasses upon their return, Disney is looking to monetize them going forward. Even if that comes with some extra perks, you can bet the goal is to get more money out of the average guest… and way more money out of the wealthy.

Thanks for sharing. My head hurts after reading this. All I can draw from this is that the paying public will get less for their dollars….but there is an option to part with more cash 😭.

Thanks for posting but sounds like we may need a degree to works this out properly. This sounds very feasible. It’s good everyone will get a little something at least and if you want more you can, for a fee though.

YAY more standing in line unless i want to one pay for more "wishes" or two to upgrade my hotel.

Point of a value resort? No free DDP, No free Magic express, No magic bands, pay to park, and by the look of it no free "wishes"

Might aswell get goofy and co to line up and boo you at check in to pop or all stars.

The extra wishes have been bookable with fp for a while ... meet mickey in MK. Preferred booking was possible for ep fireworks. How is this diff?

If this is correct then before i could book 3 fastpasses per day. Now i can book only 1.

I can however bypass the lines for extra cash while the saps in the line wait even longer.

Id say thats a whole lot different.

Dont be silly. It will be a upcharge on loo roll... You get in for free but you get one sheet per day. If you need more use a "wish"
