Fred Olsen new ship preview - UPDATED

Hi cruisers, so today marks a whole year since I was made redundant from my much loved job at Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.
On a positive note, we have been lucky enough to be chosen for a two night preview cruise of their new ship, Bolette, from Dover in August. (cruise to nowhere)

I will pop back and post photos all being well, am looking forward to seeing this new ship, it has two storey theatre, a pool cover that retracts, and speciality restaurants.

If anyone would like any particular info please let me know and I will try and help!

We did a two week cruise to Alaska on the Bolette when it was Holland America’s ‘Amsterdam’. It’s a beautiful, classy ship, just the right size in our opinion (not too big, not too small). Enjoy your mini cruise.

Just home from our flying visit to the new Fred ship, named after Fred Olsens grandmother Bolette, formerly owned by Holland America.

They have extensively refitted her, and the trademark swirly blue and orange carpet made us feel straight at home! She’s been Olsened!

The cabin felt spacious, was lovely to have a brand new bathroom with shower panel rather than a damp curtain.

Food was good, everything was served to us, no buffets, sadly we didn’t get to try the Colours and Tastes specialty restaurant (Asian fusion) but we did attend a cookery demo in the kitchen theatre, where the executive chef prepared chicken bao buns. And we got to try them! They were delicious.

Entertainment was fantastic, a medley of Greatest Showman songs, performed by the dance showteam, and then ‘come fly with me’ songs and dances from all over the world on our second night, ending in a spectacular brazilian carnival. The theatre is over two decks, in Art Deco style and very nice.

All of the Fred ships have wonderful Art collections, this one had some lovely shops too. There is also a posh coffee shop serving specialty coffees, teas and cakes/chocs… we might have paid one or two visits to…

We also did at least three quizzes, as I do love a quiz! We didn’t win though.

DH swam in the open air pool, that has a retractable cover, and said it was like a bath. We also walked around deck and really enjoyed seeing the wake. I have to admit, it has me questioning if we should cruise instead of Florida in May 2022.
