October half term - would you go?
So, we were on the point of booking a DIY week in Corfu for six of us at half term last night when I read that the idea of a two-week firebreak lockdown was being considered by the Government if the NHS looks likely to be overwhelmed. Downing Street won’t rule it out or say when it would be.
Would you take the chance? Would we be safer with a package? Leave it till nearer the time? The reason we were going DIY was to use up EasyJet flights credit from a cancelled Netherlands trip last month. |

Nobody knows, I don't think they will do it unless the proverbial hits the fan. I guess we'll know in about 2 weeks. I'd go with a company that has shown to refund swiftly should things be cancelled.

Me personally think booking anything abroad is a risk you take, the way they chop and change rules.
The same was mentioned for last October and it never happened. |

The Government is not thinking about a fire lock down. That came from a newspaper after readers. So take that with a very large pinch of salt.

If your reusing a voucher I'm assuming if the flight wasn't going you'd get another one?
Booking hotels direct often feels free cancellation until a day or two before so nothing to lose there. |

We are in the same boat. Have completely given up on the US for the next couple of years at least so we’ve booked a week in the Canaries. Hoping and praying it can go ahead. We’ve not been abroad since 2018! I’m trying to ignore this fire break talk. 🤞🏻

Same situation here have 10 days booked in Majorca with jet2holidays. Need to ring and pay balance by the 16th but I'm leaning towards just cancelling and losing my deposit. Testing for our family of 5 is going to be £400 and my biggest worry is testing positive before coming back to the uk and having to stay in a quarantine hotel with three kids in tow 🙈. Im holding out to see what Norris says on Tuesday.

That’s my husband’s fear too. We’re planning to go somewhere fairly quiet so won’t be in contact with many people. Hanging round in airport queues would be the riskiest part. My fear is all the administrative hassle and disappointment of yet another cancelled trip. If we go it’ll be with a company offering a straight refund rather than credit in the event it doesn’t happen.
