We had solar and a Tesla battery fitted earlier this year (we drive an electric Skoda Citigo). We don’t get a feed in tariff but switched our electric to Octopus who offer a Tesla plan where electric is 11.7p per kWh for both import and export.

And that’s just a few issues. Sad to say they aren’t ready for the mass market yet due to their cost and a host of other issues.

MY MB EQC does 220 at the moment, it's very new so it should gain a few more miles over time. Perfect for me for work and back. We weren't going to use it for travelling but we brought it to Southampton as its such a lovely comfortable car. We charged at a shopping outlet (free to customers) and also while eating dinner in a council car park in Winchester. We've almost enough to get home to Lincolnshire but will stop somewhere with a charger for lunch just to feel more comfortable.

The problem is electric cars are often OK for small city cars, but they are too expensive, range isn't great for long trips and they are often small. Look at an E Niro one of the best of the "cheaper" electric cars, boot is tiny.

For example I have a 1.5tdci mondeo it has a huge boot cost me £15k a year old and I do 18k miles a year and does 60mpg on motorway runs. No equivalent electric car second hand is competitively priced even when you factor in fuel saving as extra monthly payment.

Looked at getting a Skoda Enyaq recently so reasonable size but still costing me £50-100 more a month after fuel saving. When I fly to Miami in August I have a Late shift the night before. I would have a 64mile round trip, drive home at 1am then leave a few hours later for LHR 130.miles away. So not only would I have range issues with an effective range of 180miles on base model but would need to charge near airport to give me something to start with coming home.

Larger battery leases prices are insane.

Electric has to save us money or at least balance current costs. Why would I pay extra to make a tiny emissions difference which really does nothing when the real polluting countries are mot doing anything.

Hertz today is announcing a significant investment to offer the largest EV rental fleet in North America and one of the largest in the world. This includes an initial order of 100,000 Teslas by the end of 2022 and new EV charging infrastructure across the company's global operations.

Not to the same extent as they have an internal supply chain, however they're starting to push out delivery times now.
I was lucky, ordered my Model 3 in August, delivered end of Sept - they're quoting Feb deliveries for cars ordered now. Nov/Dec boats are fully allocated.

This is my 2nd Model 3, wouldn't have anything else now, absolutely love it.

I missed this thread completely, but I would certainly consider an electric car for the US. Ability to either charge it at the parks (most parks have charging points), a lot of hotels have them now as well. Or potentially at a villa. I looked a few times on Turo but the cost of hiring on there + insurance costs is just not worth it compared to what I can get from a car hire company.

I drive a Tesla M3, great car, wake up every day with whatever charge I need, supercharing networking is great and makes any long trips a breeze

Just got back from my third drive down to London in 2 weeks. From Leeds. In my Tesla MS.

I could have parked cheaper in the National Theatre by Just Park but parked Barnard House behind St Pauls as that was very close to our hotel. Unfortunately the chargers in Barnard House which were free are being upgraded so not working (which I knew).

So we set off from near Leeds Sunday morning. Stopped at our usual place, Newport Pagnell. Put on Tesla Supercharger, went to toilet and Starbucks and left topped up to 90%. That’s quite an expensive charger and cost £17.

Then went to London, parked Sun to today. That was £75.

Then drove back, another quick stop at Rugby’s new super chargers 2 miles off the M1. £11 to go to about 75% in 20 mins (needed toilet and sandwich). Got back home with 40% left.

So total cost for 4 including parking behind St Pauls Sunday to Tuesday was £106 including the 60% charge I ‘lost’ between setting off with a full charge from home and arriving back. I could have shaved £10 off charging costs by spending a bit less time on Superchargers, and shaved £27 off parking if I’d have parked further away.

This trip took no less time than in a petrol car, as the stops we would have done for the same time anyway (no enforced delay at all) and we didn’t have to stop for petrol.

So far in 2 years 8 months I’ve spent £200 on maintenance (second year ‘service’ if you can call it that, checking coolant, new air cabin filter).
