Sorry to hear this. A colleague of mine had almost exactly the same situation 2 years ago. Also identical age. I’ve just got off a Teams call with him now, where he is motoring at work, having made a full recovery. He had part of his bowel removed, chemo etc. He is now cancer free and frankly has never looked healthier. I will ask him how long it took for his stoma to be removed etc and his bowel to heal, but I recall he was off about 4 months, maybe six but may have then had a bit more time off.
So it is highly curable if it has not spread, which looks to be the case with your husband. Best of luck.

I’m afraid I have no advice but wanted to say how sorry I am to hear. Hopefully the CT will give a much clearer idea of the options

In our area we have a Macmillan colorectal nurse specialist who is brilliant at supporting families in your situation. I suggest asking if there is one in your area because they would be a good support that will tailor advice to your own circumstances. As his wife, nutrition is very important so maybe ask if you can speak to a dietician about how best to manage diet, especially if what he can tolerate changes during treatment

Hi, I can’t advise on that specific type of cancer, but, the treatments they have available now are incredible- my husband was diagnosed last year with stage four oesophageal cancer that had spread and is now in full remission after sux months of chemotherapy. He didn’t experience any delays on NHS either, we were very very lucky. I never thought it possible that he would recover as well as he has. I know how scary all of this is, so please do take care of yourself too, we are here if you need support and the very best of luck to your husband for his treatment xx

Had a very close family member who was diagnosed last year, think the thought of the stoma was worse in way than the diagnosis itself (he expected the diagnosis from his symptoms) He had his op first and then had 6 weeks of chemo in tablet form and radiotherapy. It’s quiet a diet change at least initially with the stoma. He’s just had his one year checks and so far so good. It’s a horrible shock but as a pp said, it’s this in between stage waiting to know if it’s spread that’s the worse, once the plans in place you have something to work towards.
Good luck! |

So sorry to be reading this, I have no advice but know as having breast cancer 17 years ago the waiting to find out and the further tests to find out the stage and treatment was the worst time.
Just one thing, I ended up on a breast cancer forum and although it helps others I found it caused me severe anxiety reading about worse case scenarios. I came off the forum and felt so much better for it, just keep an eye on your husband if he does choose to read the forums, the last thing he needs to be worrying about is worse case scenarios. Take care of yourself too as you will be suffering the waiting of test results as much as he is, hope the news is best case scenario for your husband x
