Is there actually anyone renting at these crazy prices?

As per the title? Is anyone really paying this or is everyone waiting for the prices to come back down, hopefully next year? The cheapest I've found is an Avis deal at 7 for 5, for 1 week at the bargain price of £786! Usrentacar just south of £1k! & If I was to take a car for the whole holiday it would be more than my flights!

The short answer is, No.
The other answer is, folk will book with companies who offer free amendments and cancellation.

We've booked our trip, but won't book a car until prices stabilise.

I paid less than £600 for a Tahoe last time.
I'm not going to pay £3500 now.
Or even the £1500 Virgin are looking for.

Hang tight. It will level out.

I've only booked the return trip from hotel to airport (looking for a deal from airport to hotel), if prices don't come down will just Uber everywhere as we would have to pay to keep the car onsite anyway and this is even before putting car hire on top.

Try autoeurope.ie - their prices are cheaper than the .co.uk site and if you register with them you get another few € off the price. They have free cancellation policy too.

With the shortage of new cars being a global issue I don’t see prices coming down anytime soon. They just can’t get the stock to meet demand so prices reflect that.

There are workarounds so I’d say that’s your best bet.

We’ve booked with Andy for our week in May and then booked three short rentals for august, we’ll use Uber the rest of the time. Avis has some decent deals if using non airport locations.

No. I’ve booked at a decent price with Costco and if that hadn’t been there I also have a good price option with Hertz (although a smaller car). There are a few different options for my dates so I’ve not had to make that choice between no car and silly money.

We are thinking along the Uber/Lyft route but want to go down to BG & that's approx $86-$110 each way but then a single day hire isn't going to be far off of that!
Just have to play the waiting game or find alternative options.

I don't know what we are going to do, before we were looking at about £900 for an SUV for 3 weeks, now it's 1.5k+ for the smallest cars 😔

Look at Andys discount florida car hire site, set pick up for Universal hard Rock and return drop off at the airport. SUVs are still higher priced but people carrier (mini van) as coming in at around £50-60 a day.
