Hope this helps someone

So just managed to book an amazing deal through Hertz (direct) from Miami for over Christmas 16 nights car hire but instead of airport pick up we are picking up from Miami West Kendal Toyota and saved about £1800 for a midsized SUV.

It is the only pick up location that was discounted.

For the kinda savings mentioned, it would probably be worth booking a cheap hotel for the night (and some people choose to stay overnight when flying into Miami anyway), and picking up the car early the next morning.

I am planning on leaving the wife once through immigration and getting an uber to get the car whilst she waits for the bags etc.

Smart solutions 😊 . Normally i would do that but now planning to drive to Orlando directly to make the most of our holiday as we are staying shorter then we normally would and we have only hand luggage coming in this time . Picking up in the morning means losing more then half a Day as we wont be in Orlando before 1pm . If we drive on arrivel we got the whole Day there . Tempting indeed to Stay overnight though
