What happens if I pay for seats, but they change the aircraft nearer the time? Do I get a refund, or still have the option to choose seats?

You will be assigned seats on the new aircraft type. If those are not comparable to what you paid for, you can claim a refund.
I think you could also change them to other seats within the same price range without charge, though I don’t pay for seat reservations so am not completely sure on this point. On the main topic of aircraft “age”, the reality is that most people judge “newness” of an aircraft by the interior, so would think of an older aircraft with a refurbished interior as “new”. This is fair enough in many ways, since the aircraft itself has to meet the same safety standards regardless of the age of the airframe, and the part the customer uses is the interior. BA’s refurbished “new” 777-200s are mostly around 20 years old, and will probably be in service for the best part of another decade. The people who get excited about genuinely newly built and delivered aircraft tend to be crew and aviation nerds (like me). |
