Mine both first went aged 18 months for the first time. There are pros and cons for any age but I don’t think the cons ever out weigh the pros at any age.
My eldest will be 11-12 for our 2 visits next year. He has a good imagination so won’t be too old for the magic but I kind of feel that covid has cost me the optimum time for my boys as our planned trip would have been ages 10 and 7 which I feel are good ages to balance the magic and being big enough to ride the scarier attractions.

Don't get too hung up on how old they should be or if they will remember it. Our girls were 8&5 first time they went and can't remember the holiday at all, we have photos all over the house from that holiday. We remember it though, from the joy on our youngest daughters face at seeing Mickey to our eldest daughters excitement at riding Tower of Terror the first time. 😀

My son was 8 when we took him, still young enough for the magic yet big enough for all rides, worked perfect for us.

We went when he was 3 and wish we hadn't, went back at 7 and everyone had a much better time. The heat was just too much for him.

My son was 4.5 the first time and it was great! We said we would take him at that age then again about aged 11-12 which we did but then we were a lot more financially secure so we went again the year after when he was 13 and again for his 16th birthday! All ages are brilliant, I couldn’t pick one as being the best!

We’ve been taking dd to Disney parks since she was 11months old and she’s now 10.
No regrets and every holiday has been different in the best possible way. |

We would have to respectfully agree to disagree on that one.
On our first 4 or so vacations with the boys aged from 2 to around 8, they got the very most out of WDW. By the time my eldest was 8, he was on his 4th or so visit and my younger one his 6th By the time they reached 7-8, they increasingly considered it childish and very much had a preference for Universal, SW and BG… other than Hollywood Studios. Once they got to 54 inches at around 10-11 years, then it was simply no contest! Disney was no more. I would say that any age over 2 is a good age as the kids tend to believe that it is all real and there is something magical in that, just like Father Christmas, but that heat and tiredness have to be monitored carefully. We tended to visit in the earlier months of the year, always make rope drop and be out of the parks by early afternoon. Afternoons were either water parks or other activities, evening meal then early to be in order to hit rope drop next day.

FWIW I can't agree with this as just from my own personal experience we took our then 5 year old in 2018 and she had the most amazing time. Plus she went on all the big rides and did plenty of walking (no stroller). This was in August at the height of heat/humidity.
The key is to not try and do things that your child might not be well placed to do, whatever age. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Our youngest now is totally different to the afformentioned older daughter and we need to tailor things differently. Any age can be really fantastic given the right circumstances. |

I think it's very "child" dependent
My own two went first time ages 6&7 Loved it My niece went aged 5... Really the worst trip I've had Grandson went aged four.. magical memories but in hindsight I'd wished I taken him now aged 6 To add It's all in the planning and gearing up to the youngest. Edited at 01:58 PM. |
