Reminder - Old type £1 coins...
... cease to be legal tender after 15th October 2017 so if you have any get rid of them now. You may have them in savings jars or piggy banks so you have a week to get them banked or exchanged. Many shops are already refusing to take them despite them being legal tender until next Sunday. Banks will continue to take them for a short while after the withdrawal date.

I read somewhere today that the Poppy Appeal are happy for people to give the old coins, they will accept them

Just a heads up that some banks will NOT be accepting the old £1 coins after 15 October, so its better to make sure you spend them (if you can find somewhere who will still take them or bank them beforehand).
At work we've been informed by our bankers that they wont let us deposit the old £1 coins after this Friday (13th) and that they wont accept them from personal customers either. Locally, even our town centre post office has already refused to take them anymore. |

Won't we still need a couple for trolleys and vending/parking machines?

Post Office branches will still take the old £1 coins if paid into an account or used to pay for services.

The bank of England will always take them and exchange them.

Our local one won't even take them for those reasons - they have had the sign up for the last three weeks with a 7 October deadline. My advice is to double check before the 15 October deadline.
I appreciate our local Post Office may not be following the usual guidelines but it does illustrate how easy it is to be caught out. Edited at 10:41 PM. |

All great fun
Don't really want to be dealing with this at work on Monday at W H Smith's especially after having 3 weeks in the sunshine state. Lesley
