Just got off the phone with BA querying outstanding balance query (Flydrive) as the date balance due for 13th Aug flights was 9th July on booking (Aer lingus man-dub-mco), but the website says they have changed balance due date.

The lady I spoke to clarified it is 3 weeks now(so now due 23rd July) and that they cannot change it on the system as we booked so long ago, but has made a note on my account

She said they can still select the flight at the moment, but expect it to be cancelled between 4-6 weeks before and not to pay balance until just before 23rd July

What about the issue that you can’t get in the USA (I’m assuming you aren’t a citizen or a LPR) , surely that alone would enable you To get money back regardless of the FCO advice.

Right now, the main blocker is the fact that the USA has banned everyone from the UK and EU (and other places) from entering the country.

The FCO advice is just that - advice - and technically doesn't stop you from flying. It would just invalidate your insurance if you chose to fly and you could claim on your insurance if you choose to cancel. Although I think airlines would decide not to fly non-essential aircraft if the advice is still in place. Similarly the current government requirement to self-isolate for 14 days on your return doesn't technically stop you from going.

BTW, United Airlines website says that customers can "make changes to, or cancel, any travel they have booked through the end of the year without fees":

hub.united/united-how-ch...645469782.html

(although I get the impression their definition of "cancel" is "receive credit for a future flight")

No our insurance won’t do anything until 48 hours before the departure date but yet if the boarders are still closed and/or the FCO advice remains against travel we would then be able to claim. Until then we are in limbo.

Our flights were originally via Houston too. You’re lucky your insurance will allow you to cancel 31 days out, our insurance is 48 hours out 🙈

I’m sure you will be able to claim. Can’t see either being lifted in the foreseeable.

good luck!
