Advice re renting DVC points.

Good afternoon. I’m not a DVC owner and never stayed DVC before.

I am considering renting points for a 2 night stay of a trip being planned for August 2022. It would be 2 specific nights (Sunday and Monday) near the start of the month.

We would like one of Poly, WL, GFV in that order of preference. As a backup would probably go for AKL or SSR. (Studios)

Would be likely looking to book 10 and a half months prior so that flights are sorted first.

Just a quick bit of advice if possible. How likely would we be to be able to secure these points from an owner? ie: from a scale of easy peasy to forget it and start thinking of different plans now

If it’s a stupid question I apologise 😂

Paul

Very likely if you track down an owner at one of those resorts so you can book 11 months out

Yep, definitely start keeping an eye on renting groups on FB etc. You probably want to make contact with an owner a little before the 10.5 month point; mainly as Gelatoni said above, the booking window opens at 11 months... and because some of the resorts you’ve listed (Poly particularly with the refurb and GFV) can have their studios go super quick.

Also have a realistic idea in terms of what you’re prepared to pay - i.e points tend to sell at a higher rate further out and at premium resorts than they might do if you did it relatively last minute to use up someone’s distressed points and you weren’t too fussed on location.

Thank you.
I would be looking to commit as soon as I have flights sorted. I hope to book a BA flydrive at 355 days out but the nights I am looking for are the first 2 nights of a 28 night trip... Thinking out loud... should be ready to go marginally. Score the 11 month point.

Having never rented points before. What is a sensible amount to budget? Have seen Daves DVC tends to be about $20? Does that mean somewhere around £15 a point is about right for all concerned as a ball park?

Thank you. Yes, that’s where I got my $20 per point estimate. I haven’t submitted a request or anything as I think we are way too far off the 11 month mark.
I also can’t really see any benefit of booking via them over booking direct with an owner if I managed to locate one willing... unless I’m talking nonsense 😂

Be advised you can always use "DVC-rental.com" for your rental needs and you don't have to put any money down to check availability.

Use this link to submit your request and they will let you know what is available and the cost.

Thank you Jason.

I have had an email quote for our 1st pick resort but it’s obviously too early too early to check availability.
Just got to work out my attitude to the risk at the moment as it would be a $200 deposit then full payment 11 months out if there is availability. Think I’m going to sleep on it for a bit 🤫

When renting points would anyone recommend one company over another?
Reason being:
DVC-Rental.com have sent me a quote -
2 nights Poly - Studio - Lake view - 42 points - $840

I was just about to pay the $200 deposit but put off a little by paying 4% to use a credit card (small things I know).

I then looked at DVC rental store who won't take a booking or deposit until 11 months out but it appears they have some better cancellation terms for renters.

I then looked at Davids and saw that, despite what the DVC rental store email states, a lake view deluxe studio is actually 25 points per night not 21!

confused Is there actually any benefit in getting in early or am I better off just waiting 6 months until I am near the 11 month booking window?
