They made me feel dizzy for a few weeks and certainly zero alcohol or he may be very ill indeed. They were ok after a while but I am on mirtazpine and pregabalin now (not working well but thats another story ) and can drink in moderation but only after c6 months .

He once took sertraline about 10 years ago but stopped after a few days as he felt sick. That put him off medication and he coped other ways. Unfortunately covid and lockdowns has taken away coping mechanisms for lots of people .

I wish he'd got something a few weeks ago instead of waiting until now. He was hoping getting together with friends etc would help but that tends to involve a couple of beers, although he isn't a big drinker it's part of his social scene which has been lacking for the last few months

Both of us have taken Citalopram. No issues for me.

OH doesn’t have any side effects, but I used to know when he’d missed one. Not so much anymore. Neither of us had any issues starting it. But we did both avoid alcohol in the beginning.

I don’t take it anymore and haven’t for years. But OH drinks on it now without any issues (he has more of an issue cause he doesn’t drink very often &#128514. Neither of us had any side effects when we came off them either (OH came off in 2016. He’s gone back on)

The NHS website says you can drink alcohol with Citalopram, although as alcohol is a depressant it's probably best to avoid.
I think I'll advise him to meet his friend from work tomorrow night have just a beer or two, then start the medication Saturday. It'll be 9 days before we go away then and he can decide whether to stick with soft drinks or just an occasional half . He won't be driving as we will .
It sounds like I've got it all worked out for him but I know he will ask for guidance. At the end of the day it's up to him I know, but he is on the side of caution.

My OH has been on Citalopram for years. For the first few months he avoided drinking. He was fine and didn't have any serious side effects, kept working etc.

Nowadays he drinks very occasionally, and finds he is noticeably more 'down' the next day. He doesn't drink much as a result.

I've been taking it since November.

The only side effect is I often feel quite lethargic in the afternoons. I don't drink a lot, but have had no issues with drinking with it that I've noticed.

It takes a good couple of weeks for it to start working though, think it needs to build up.

I suppose what works for one doesn’t for another, I hope he feels better soon xx

I took citalopram for a while. Initially I felt a mild nausea and generally a bit spaced out, it didn't last longer that a few days and the drug really helped me get my head together after being really quite unwell. I don't recall having any trouble coming off it when I was feeling better either.

My memory of that time is a little hazy, but I'm a regular drinker (glass of wine 5-6 times a week but never more than 2) and can't imagine I'd have stopped drinking for long with them and certainly don't remember a glass of wine being a problem.
