Artificial grass
Now the patio is done at our son's house I reckon 18 to 20 square metres is left. The grass that is down is very poor and he wants low maintenance.
Is artificial grass easy to lay it would you get a specialist company to do it. Would a budget of £1000 cover both the grass and installation, or is that too low for decent quality?

I’m no expert but seems low to me if getting someone in, factor in you’ll probably need a skip which will likely be a couple of hundred, even at £15 a m the turf would be another £300 then you’ve got things like the sand, membrane and and fixings etc
Not sure what people charge for the installation but quotes I’ve had in the past are pretty eye watering and there’s a fair amount of work in the prep and levelling |

We are having our garden done right now and the lowest quote we had was £3000 and highest was £5000 as it needs a lot of prep work and obviously the cost of labour so think it’ll probably come to a lot more than a grand unfortunately .
This is why we’ve decided to keep our grass as is and it’s still costing an absolute fortune just for the paving, sleeper beds etc.. 😬 |

The price will really vary on the quality you want, the reality of it to normal grass and the prep for it.
We paid just under £2,000 for ours which included everything. Clearing what was there, a skip, levelling the garden and doing everything needed to get the artificial grass laid. But it was a long time ago. But we’ve never regretted it based on what we had before. |

That looks a similar size area, it's really not a very big garden and almost half of it is now patio slabs.
DH and DS might be happy to dig up the existing grass and semi prep it. Maybe he would need to up his budget a little

My neighbour got his done last summer. Probably twice the size as in the picture. Cost him £5000. One thing I never considered was he told me when the weather is hot they can’t walk on it in bare feet as it burns them. Never even thought about that.

I’ve never notice that on ours.
We have some called Namgrass down. Key is in the prep though, they put tons of hardcore and granite dust under ours. Still looks good 5 years on though. We are doing the front next year. I wouldn’t want normal grass again. Nil maintenance, always looks neat, no mud etc.
