Do you have a milkman?
Big item on my local radio station today about,1000s of folk ditching supermarket milk and returning to having milk delivered in bottles to their doorstep,to help reduce plastic and save the planet from this as seen on “blue planet”.when asked about the cost they said,it’s slightly more, but on checking it’s more than double, now I would love to do this as feel “doing my bit” but undecided now,I think I am a hypocrite,as this should be a bondy “no brainer”, your thoughts please, bondy.

My MIL has one, but has sometimes had a problem with her milk getting nicked as she lives on a main road. She only gets it twice a week now, but it works out fine if they put it under a bucket she leaves in the front garden. They still come weekly to collect the money, but I read an article in a paper about some firms now doing direct debits which all sounds a bit of a faff.
We live on the same main road, at a slightly busier part, also we are away a lot, so I think it would be more trouble than it's worth for us, unless it was super-flexible. I would like to buy glass bottles though, so I wonder if they will ever appear in supermarkets.

I do buy my milk from a milkman. It is always delivered before 5.30am, 3 days a week, in all weathers. Yes it costs more money, but it saves me popping to the shops just to get milk and ending up with £10 of 'extras'. It is all managed online and paid by direct debit, I can adjust the amount or cancel up to 10pm the night before. I also think it is a useful service for the elderly who cannot get out as easily so I feel I am helping to keep the service going. I also believe it supports British farmers.

I’d be happy to as I try and avoid any supermarkets that promote intensive dairy farming.

We have a milk man - we ordered milk from them because to support a local business and we felt sorry for the poor girl that was knocking on doors on the pouring rain trying to drum up business!
They are a bit more expensive but ours managed to deliver us milk in the recent snowfall - god knows how they managed that as no other vehicles got through for a couple of days! We pay direct debit - which is very straightforward and we don't ever think about it. The downside is that ours delivers plastic bottles (like the supermarket), and once delivered milk while we were on holiday - so might alert potential burgalers. We live in a quiet cup de sac - so little chance of our milk being pinched. Although I remember pinching milk when I was a kid - so it would serve me right! |

We have a milk lady. She’s great. Milk is there before 6 am every time in any weather. I just text her if I don’t want any delivered. She is a bit more expensive but the milk comes from her own farm and it’s worth the extra.

We get milk, cream and yoghurt delivered from a local farm. I have to say, their stuff is really lovely - even the skimmed milk is nice and creamy, and the cream is phenomenal.
However, local milk here is regulated and has to be sold at 60p a pint - supermarkets are allowed to bring in branded organic milk and non-cows milk but they aren't allowed to bring in their own brand cows milk. So its 60p a pint regardless of where we buy it from. If it did cost more I would pay the extra though, as I know where my milk is coming from and where my money is going.

Our neighbour has a milkman a couple of times a week, it's in a large plastic container exactly like I buy in Tesco.

We gave up the milkman years ago. We get through about 24 pints a week and just can't justify the extra cost, i do recycle everything we can but it breaks my heart when I'm at work at our local hospital. You should see the plastic containers with food still in, not touched, thrown away. Not only do I despair at the plastic being discarded but the waste of food too.
