I'd prefer the 2 hour 45 min layover. Perhaps ring Delta on 020 7660 0767; bear in mind they may want to levy a charge, hopefully not

Thanks. Would I not need to call Virgin as it's booked with them?

Called Virgin and looks like we're stuck with the long connection as they told me they could look at changing but it would be a minimum of £150 each. Annoying as the earlier flight into Tampa was the same price when we booked but we were worried we wouldn't make the connection.

I would be happy with the longer connection. Clear immigration, drop bags and get something to eat in a relaxed fashion. You would only be gaining a few hours early evening when you arrive, not worth the cost to change to me.

We have been early before thanks to the gods playing along and ATL airport is big with plenty of places to sit and eat and I believe free WIFi so I’d wait it out. There is a good chance you won’t end up with that much time after all.

I think you've made the right decision.
We flew via Atlanta October 2017 with a 2 hour layover and due to immigration being very busy and some issues in security we missed our connecting flight.
We didn't get on the next flight and just about made the one after.

Thanks think we'll have to do that. Would just have been nice to get to Tampa and drive up to Orlando a bit earlier.

Is there a quieter time through immigration? We arrive 6.30pm and have a 9pm connection just hoping that’s enough

That's unfortunate, I'd booked via Delta, as we're in Fl I rang the US number for changes to our May return flight... whilst it states on our itinerary there may be a charge luckily the agent said not.

You should be ok with a 2.5 hour layover Louise. In Nov 2017 VA were late into Atl; we made it thro immigration, customs, terminal train and to our next flight within 80 mins, skin of teeth that day! Surprisingly so did our single case and Atl security searched it afore hoying in on our next aircraft! Crew were waiting to close the door on our Atl to RSW as they had been given a slightly earlier slot.
