Hmmm...
Casting my mind back... Sliced banana sandwich corned beef sandwich with ketchup home made chip-pan chip sandwich on a fluffy bread roll bacon sandwich with brown sauce two Rich Tea or Water Biscuits with real butter between them never quite got the (popular where I grew up) crisp sandwich thing  Edit - OOh just remembered salmon paste! The one in a sausage shaped erm.. plastic 'sausage'

My ex husbands mum used to make him thunder and lightning sarnies. When I asked what that was he said white bread, butter, jam and clotted cream.

 That's more of a modern day one  quite inventive! - but whilst on the subject of a more modern day sandwich choices, a good friend of mine is partial to the odd Ginster's Cornish pasty sandwich, much to her Cornish husband's disgust!
