What on earth is this man doing?
Friend’s security system recorded this man inserting some sort of rod thing through the letter box for a few seconds then removing it. He seems to be wearing some sort of badge but we can’t make out what is on it.

Ta, are you pretty sure of that? I’d never heard of it but I suppose it makes sense that they’d have a way of testing houses when there’s nobody in.

I would be more concerned about it being somebody dressed as a workman sticking a pole through my front door with the intention of stealing house keys, car keys etc.
Has your friend checked that all of her keys are still accounted for? Also just in case this was an attempt to steal anything please tell them to take car keys to bed with them. |

Gingerlife - that’s what I thought too.
I’ve never seen a Gas Sniffer before.

Slightly off topic but a police officer friend told us never to take car keys to bed. He said to put them out of sight but downstairs where they can be found if intruders came in to look for them. He said that if they want you car enough and you have taken your keys to bed then they are likely to come upstairs for them. With kids in the house this is definitely something you do not want. Its sad really that we even have to contemplate this isn't is.

It is a horrible world we live in when we can't just leave our possessions where we want in our own homes.
As police officers both myself and my husband have always taken ours in to the bedroom with us and they have keyrings on them that jingle when they are moved. They would get a shock in our house if they tried to steal our keys when we are trying to sleep and my husband leaps out of bed stark naked to confront them 😳 |

It's the same kit they use in the street.
Has anybody ever spotted those 20mm wide rubber bungs in tarmac pavements? The utility companies drive a spike through the tarmac looking for leaks and then push the probe into the small hole. When done they push a rubber bung in to the hole they made For slab pavements they just use a joint between the slabs instead.
