Dog attack - Update page 9

I’ve just had the most awful evening.

My DH and I were out walking our dog, he’s a little Maltese, and as we were almost home, literally at the corner of the street, he was attacked by another dog.

We have 2 Bernese mountain dogs that live near us and one of them saw my dog and started lunging towards us, the owner couldn’t hold it and it broke free of her.

It grabbed my dog in its mouth and shook him about. He was squealing and squealing it was the most awful thing I’ve ever seen or heard in my life 🥲

Now back from the vets without him, he has at least 2 puncture wounds, one of them very bad, so the vet is going to clean him up tonight, give him some strong painkillers and operate tomorrow morning.

Hopefully we’ll get him home tomorrow evening, he’ll have drains in for 3-5 days and then need to go back to get stitches out in 10 days.

It was just awful it’s one of those things you need think will happen and it happened so fast we didn’t even have time to lift him before the dog was on him.

I’m sure they’re won’t be much sleep had in my house tonight, he always sleeps cuddled up to me in bed the house is so empty without him 💔

I'm so sorry you and your pup had to go through this! I hope all goes well tomorrow and he's on the mend soon as possible.

What happened with the other dog and the owner, are you pressing charges?

Just awful, if they can’t control the dog it should’ve been muzzled, hoping you get your pup home tomorrow and he’s ok x

Hope your dog is OK, sounds like a horrible and frightening experience, never having had a dog i was wondering what if anything happens to the other dog in circumstances like these, I'm assuming things are fairly clear cut if a dog attacks a person but have seen a few threads here where a dog has just attacked another dog without provocation and as someone who is thinking of getting a dog wanted to know what happens in these circumstances

Thank you everyone, the owner kept saying she was sorry but I just wanted to get away from her, I said we needed to get to the vets and she kept saying she would pay the vet.

That’s the last thing I was thinking about to be honest I just wanted to get him away from the dog and get him safe.

Spoonarama I didn’t know if we could press charges because it was a dog on dog attack?

I am going to ring the dog warden tomorrow, I’m thinking surely the dog should be muzzled on walks now?

Oh my word how terrifying for you. My Tilly got attacked a few years ago, not to your poor dogs extent, but even now I get worried when bigger dogs come running over to her.
My Tilly is half maltese so I know how small the breed is, he must have been terrified. I don’t know the other breed. Have the police been contacted?
I hope he has a speedy recovery 💗💗

Thank you xx he’s just the sweetest little dog I definitely treat him like my baby ❤️

I didn’t know whether or not to ring the police, I was going to speak to the dog warden tomorrow and take advice from them.

Does anyone know should I be ringing the police?
