New Kitchen trip report!

I thought I would start a thread that I can update as things progress with our new kitchen. The rip out, fitting and fingers crossed, no major disasters along the way We also are having a new ceiling and floor needs levelling.

So, bit of background. A few of you know I am planning a new kitchen. It is a galley kitchen for all intents and purpose but with one end slightly wider than the other, so a slight L. It has been a difficult one to plan because of the many obstacles we have, lots of windows, strange cut outs etc.

I have a vision of a grey kitchen, very dark laminate floor and sparkly white worktop. I love the look of the gold/brass handles and taps so have already ordered and received these. The tap is lovely, and the colours match perfectly.

I also have on order a couple of lights for the ceiling. Having one in each section, plus some spotlights. These lights have been on order for a while, and are lord knows where in a big container on its way to the UK. The date keeps shifting slightly but i've got everything crossed it will come good in the end!

We do need to order our kitchen from DIY kitchens in the next week, but i'm still agonising over which grey to order. (I hear you groan hahaha).

My rationale is... i love the heron grey as its a beautiful tone, looks lovely with the dark wood and with the gold hardware, but worried it will pull the walls inwards and make it all feel narrower.

So, go with the dove grey, this is okay, its slightly paler than would ideally like but it would make it feel bigger/brighter.

Sorry if you are already yawning but well done if you are still reading along! I just wanted everything in one place.

We are due to have a new backdoor, lintel and window fitted around the 20th June, so that really is the start of the journey and the full refurb! Terribly exciting but also dreading the upheaval hahahaaa

I ordered our flooring about an hour ago online and set a delivery date for 11 June for that, we have plenty of space to store it. Didn't want to leave it any longer just in case!

I hope some of you will join me for this journey, my first, and likely only kitchen refurb... I've waited a lonnnnnnnng time for this.

x m

Looking forward to following your kitchen journey. I’d go for the lighter units myself because of the dark flooring. I must admit though I know nothing lol!

hahaha honestly it so hard, i'm almost at the point of tossing a coin but even then i'd end up doing best of 3! I think I prefer the dark but yeah... going to hit that buy now button and not have any buyer's remorse afterwards haha

Love a good refurb! Sounds v exciting! Very jealous of your laminate flooring (I keep nagging DH for this to replace our old carpet downstairs, but would love it to run throughout the whole downstairs including kitchen & conservatory!).

I have a question for everyone who has glass splashbacks. I am hoping to have one behind our cooker. On the plan the cooker sticks out but in reality it sits much further back into the chimney breast. It will stick out about 4 inches.

Can you put glass splashbacks on the sides as well? Not sure it will work or not, plus the heat issue? Worried that the sides will get a lot of splashes/marks on. I don't really want tiles/grout.

This is what I have in mind for the back, or something similar. Just want to make sure the colour isn't too different to the gold/brass and it does look slightly warmer... the more I look at it the more I think the colour is wrong but I love it though, what do you think?

I'm in for another kitchen refurbishment as I can then live vicariously through you...i don't think I'm brave enough to attempt one.

For what it's worth I love the darker units and the flooring but not sure if they will work together? But it's your kitchen so what I think really doesn't matter. The splashback looks lovely, but in the picture it looks more coppery than gold like your taps, perhaps it's the picture.

Good luck with it all. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I love that splashback. I'm so desperate for a new kitchen but DH isn't He is keen to build a new house in the field that we own next to our current house but he's self employed and so busy, too busy to build a house! It will never happen.

I love the splash back! Could you do darker cabinets on the bottom and the lighter grey ones on top? I would love a new kitchen so I’m looking forward to following along. Xx

I love following a kitchen refurbish thread!

Your plan is looking good, and I LOVE the dark floor. It looks fabulous. Love the splash back too, but I agree the tones in it look more copper than gold. It could be different in real life. Can you take your tap or handles to the shop where you can compare the two?

I like both the grey colours, but personally I think the lighter colour may work better. From memory (and sight) I think I have the Dove Grey cabinets, but with black granite (which drives me crackers!). Here is a pic.
