BA Orlando via Miami

I was wondering if anyone can help.
My son and partner have booked a holiday in the ba sale with flights to Orlando via Miami. They have a 2 hour connection time and have been told this morning that they will have to collect their bags in Miami and then book in with bags for next flight to Orlando

I was wondering if any dibbers have done this route and if you do have to collect your bags. Both the Heathrow to Miami and Miami to Orlando flights are with American Airlines. And if so is this realistically enough time. I personally think this is to tight.

They have until 6 pm to cancel for a refund without it costing them their deposit.

Thanks in advance.

We done this route last year as a family of 6 including a baby. Had just over 2 hours, were through immigration in no time at all, picked up and dropped off cases at customs and were sat with a Dunkin Donuts waiting for the Orlando flight in no time.

2 hours will be easy, immigration seems to be pretty quick at Miami

We did this route outbound last October (MCO-LGW-EDI on return), we had just over 2 hours and it was plenty of time. We flew in and out Miami this summer too and as others have said immigration there was a breeze, especially compared to last time we flew into MCO when we were about 2 hours in immigration. They will then arrive into MCO as domestic passengers and can head straight for their car or transfer. If it’s a good deal I would go for it.

Thanks for the updates. I thought the time would be tight. Just to clarify do they need to pick up bags after immigration then go through another security after bag drop at desk.

In relation to collecting bags, that shouldn't take too long either as you're not taking them too far to drop off
Thanks for the reply. So is this literally picking up your bags and then taking them to another bag drop off with no security to clear or any other customs. Just worried as son will be 19 travelling with partner and don’t want them running around Miami airportbtrying to make a tight connection with picking up bags dropping them off then clearing further security after checking in for next flight.

There is another security check, right next to the bag drop. Just had to put the hand luggage through an X-ray scanner. Really quick and easy.

That’s reassuring to know and thank for all the helpful advice. I feel a bit more relieved knowing he will not be trying to make a tight connection between flights.

You'll probably find that the majority of the folk getting the flight from Miami to Orlando will be in the same position
