Not in my experience. Over the years we have been, May half term has been the quietest of all the UK school holidays. Avoid the weekend.

May Half Term is the quietest as long as Ascension day does not clash, unfortunately it also has peak prices for UK, it can actually be cheaper at the end of August.

We’ve been end of August, start of Christmas holidays and May half term. Each time, the prices have been reasonable for four of us, staying for five days - £800 for Cheyenne 21-26 Aug, £1200 for Disneyland Hotel 19-23 Dec, and £600 for Santa Fe 29 May - 2 Jun.

The price will be based on your arrival date - for the DLH, we were lucky enough to break up before European schools and arrived on a super-value date (the cheapest) and got two nights free, which brought the price right down. May half term is usually high season on the UK booking site, but we booked through the French site, which had May half term as moderate / normal season (I can’t remember which). For August, it’s worth checking the price grids as the pricing season drops from high to normal, and then to moderate, often within UK school holidays.

For crowds, I think August was probably quietest, but there wasn’t much in it. It’s always been manageable.

I assumed they meant school holiday - maybe ‘half term’ is a phrase used in some places to refer to all school holidays?
