Upgraded to virgin PE.. Were we very lucky or is this normal?
Hi
Flying back home tomorrow after a fabulous holiday. On the outward flight we were upgraded to premium economy . Now what I want to know is were we an exception or does this happen often. We really couldn't believe our luck but I can imagine if you pay for the privilege ...knowing that someone is getting this free must be very annoying. I am a flying club member only red status though and checked in online. At check in desk nothing was mentioned about swapping seats. Then about an hour before boarding a few names were called to the desk. All the others were told they had their seats moved in economy and when I gave our name he said sorry but we've had to move you... to premium economy and smiled. Lovely it was too. A fantastic start to our hols. |

We've been lucky a few times (even PE to upper) and even when travelling with the kids but we're gold members and hubby often jokes that the amount of money we've spent withn Virgin and BA over the years we could have bought our own plane
It's a lovely feeling |

Yeh how do they pick. Me and my partner have travelled with them for four consecutive years...but that probably isn't enough. We have unique surnames but bet that won't be enough so how do they decide who should be upgraded.
By the way my surname is Frost and my partners is Snow

If you enquired about paying extra for leg room, this could have been part of the reason.
Airlines rarely give away upgrades these days, they're mainly reserved for status members of their loyalty schemes. However, if an airline thinks you may be willing to pay more to fly in a better cabin or for better seats, they'll give you a freebie and hope the experience will encourage you to pay for it next time. Of course, once you try it, it's very hard to go back! Edited at 03:34 AM. |

We have booked PE for our upcoming trip. First time flying PE so quite excited. When I booked over the phone I told them it was our honeymoon so they guy put a note on our booking to upgrade us to Upper if there are any available.
Here's hoping! |

How lucky! I'd love that to happen to us, very much doubt it though as we're flying with my DS who's only 2, ha ha!
