Five Fords Fifth Family Floriday Aug 18 - Day 9 - WDW Port Orleans Riverside
Thursday 16th August
Watched the sun come up again as I was awake early, as usual. It would’ve been nice for breakfast to end at say 10am but it didn’t, that's the only real grumble we had with this hotel. Everyone had woken apart from Poppy again and another gentle nudge was needed. We got down to the breakfast room for 8.30 but this morning it was a lot busier. We had to queue for some hot food and there didn’t seem to be quite as much choice? Still lots of bacon but little else otherwise. So there was nothing else for it but to make a few bacon butties followed by some cereal and fruit. Back in the room as we finished sorting our bags out the maid knocked on our door. It was 9.30 and she asked if we were leaving. I thought it was a bit cheeky of her especially as no one had been to our room yesterday! I told her she could wait, wasn’t rushing for anyone. Once we had finally finished we got our car from valet parking and packed all our bags away. We then left the car there whilst we had a little walk up to the Marina. Again everything had changed round there since our last visit in 2010 and there looked like plenty more would change with all the building work that was going on around. After our quick walk we left Clearwater Beach, it was 11am. Still love this place as much as the first time we visisited. Another place with very fond memories. We filled up at the next gas station and were soon on the road back to Orlando No stops this time and before we knew we were soon seeing the turn off for Epcot and then the Disney sign. Best feeling ever! Soon we were pulling up in Port Orlean Riverside. It was a beautiful sunny day and the resort looked so pretty. It was so quiet inside and we were lucky to be served virtually straight away when we went to check in. The cast member was lovely and super chatty and asked about our anniversary. She asked which room/building we stayed in when we got married and then proceeds to look for a room within building 18. I thought this was so sweet of her but unfortunately she wasn’t able to find a vacant room. I thanked her for the lovely gesture and said it didn’t matter anywhere quiet would be great for us and on an upper floor. Eventually she located a room in building 26 which was on the top floor which would be ready later that day. We’d never stayed in that particular area so were excited to try somewhere new. Magic bands all sorted we were ready to start our Disney Adventure! Next stop for us was the food court, obviously, to get our refillable mugs. So pleased to see that this time they had plenty of different colours in stock, makes it so much easier knowing who’s mug is who’s. The time was now 1.30pm and we had an ADR at Mama Melrose in Hollywood Studios at 2.30 so we needed to be making a beeline for that park. Thankfully we were there in no time. There was a lot of building work going on and the lanes going in were a little confusing? We found our way in, parked up and waited for a tram to take us to the park. Oh my word it was so hot whilst we stood there, luckily we weren’t waiting for long. Breezed through security which wasn’t at all busy then we headed over to guest services as we wanted to enquire about our 14 day ticket. Whilst we were waiting in the line at cast member came over to ask what our query was and to see if she could help. We wanted to know if the 14 day ticket actually lasted 15 days as we’ve read this is the case if you don’t use the ticket on one of the days. It was a little difficult for us to explain to the cm what we meant? I asked if there was a way to see when the ticket would expire but she said they would last 14 days. After trying for a while we just decided not to bother going into Hollywood Studios’, we’d only be in 3 or 4 hours and we didn’t want to risk not be able to go into a park on our last day. The cm was super helpful as and cancelled our adr for us and also set up the Disability assistance pass for Hayden. We caught the tram back the escort on there was so funny and had us all singing and waving on the Hollywood Studios party tram! From there we drove over to Disney Springs as we wanted some lunch. So many new places had opened since the last time we visited it looked so different and we liked what we saw. Picked up our Disney gift card then decided to give Blasé pizza a go for a late lunch as we’d heard lots of good things about it. Poppy wanted some food from the Polite Pig but changed her mind when she realised that they didn’t do hotdogs! We got 3 pizzas between us with was plenty as Poppy and I wasn’t really that hungry. Thought the food was really fresh and tasty and we all said we’d eat here again. It was now time for us drive back to Port Orleans Riverside as our room was ready. Turned out to be a lovely corner room and the view from there was looking out to a wooded/marsh area. As we had just booked a standard view we were expecting a carpark view so this was a welcome surprise. Scott took the kids to the pool whilst I unpacked. I don’t know why I have to bring so much stuff as I get so stressed trying to find places to put it all! It actually didn’t take m that long to sort our things out then I walked down to the main pool. Not forgetting my refillable mug! Oh gosh it was so lovely to be walking around the beautiful grounds here. As I got closer to the pool I realised that it was closed I then saw the Scott and the kids walking over the bridge. Turns out they’d only had about 5 minutes in the pool before being called out as there was lightning in the area. They’d been looking in the shop and around the resort. We thought we may as well have our tea seeing as though we were so close to the food court. It wasn’t busy and we soon had all our food. Not sure what we were thinking but we all decided to get a meal each and we were totally defeated. Poppy and Jamie both took their magic cookie bars back to the room so they could have them for breakfast the next day! We showered and changed for bed but watched some TV before turning the lights off. We had an early start over to Magic Kingdom in the morning. How good it feel to be back at Disney, nothing beats it! It's a shame the breakfast at your hotel in Clearwater Beach finished so early - surely not many people are up and ready by 9am on holiday! Bit cheeky of the maid too, trying to kick you out. It's still a lovely place though, nice photos of your morning stroll.
POR looks lovely, and what a nice room you have. Isn't Disney Springs great now? We love it there but we still have to try Blaze pizza. Your pizzas look so good.
