Mobile Formal wear

Never been on a cruise before.

What do kids 10,12 &14 wear on a formal night?
Mainly 14yr old boy? He’s not happy about a suit!?

We have done 6 Disney cruise and just did smart on the formal night. Because it was very hot we bought our 14 yr old DS tailored shorts and a nice polo shirt and he was fine with that. My hubby had chinos and shirt and I had tailored trousers and a blouse. You don't have to get very dressy if you don't want to. We are cruising in 2 weeks and we are going to the adults only restaurant on formal night so DS now 16 will not have to bother as will be in the kids club and no doubt eating pizza 😎

What cruise line are you going on as that makes a difference.

If it's DCL, let him wear whatever he wants apart from swimwear (inc swim shorts). You can also wear anything apart from swimwear, coverups, offensive logos/patterns and (for men) vests (thanks goodness!)

The answer really depends on the cruise line. The likes of P and O are more formal than RCI.

Varies by cruise line. Often under 16s do not have the formal dress code enforced. If they don't want to do all the fuss on formal night they can always go to the kids clubs or buffet instead.

I would go back to your first post and edit the title to include 'Royal Caribbean'. You'll then get answers from those who have sailed on RC.

I have been on Harmony and Mariner now and on mosy people get very dressed up! A lot of women wear long dresses, hair and make up perfect ! We made an extra effort this year and I still felt ds was under dressed a little and hubbie was raging he didn't bring a formal jackets to go over his white shirt. A lot of men wear suits! We enjoy it. We would always take time for showers and get dressed for dinner in main dining room anyhow. It is all part of our cruise. Of course there are others who still go to dining room on formal night not dressed up. Hth
