I too value the freedom and flexibility a car gives above everything else. We once tried to use the Disney transport from our hotel in Lake Buena Vista but the time lost was incredible.
The option to taxi to Disney Springs and then use Disney Transport is there for you (if you have park hopping Ultimate tickets - well it used to be), but you would lose loads of time, so I think you have a choice between Uber and Hire Car.

I would also play with the dates as suggested earlier, and try different vehicle categories to see if you can get a better rental price. Also keep an eye out for special offers as your holiday gets nearer.

Try USrentacar? I always found them OK, and I find it's worth trying things like BA/Virgin airlines also for a car rental quote. I often rent with BA/Avis.

Try Travel Supermarket - you have not put your dates but in June getting under £400 for 7 seater mini van (with Thrifty and Auto Europe)
