Taxis cheaper than car hire?

We're going to Orlando this June. I have stupidly waited and waited to book a car, and now the prices have shot up to over £500 for a 7 seater minivan (compared to £320 about a month ago).

There are two families travelling (one family of 6, another of 5) - all adults. The other family were also considering car hire.

Do you think it will now be cheaper for us to get taxis to/from the parks from our hotel, rather than paying for two hire cars which would cost over £1000 in total purely for the rental (that's without the fuel, Disney/universal's car park fees etc)? Do they have taxis that can accommodate 11 passengers so that we could share the cost? And does anyone have any idea how much it costs from Floridays Hotel on international drive (South) to the parks?

Thanks in advance.

We are hiring a car but there have been lots if threads on Uber lately (which are cheaper than taxis). Ppl have posted prices so this should help but my guess would be it would be cheaper - unless you are planning a trip down the coast ect
Play around with your dates too as we aren't getting a car gif the first 2 days and it's saved over £200

probably is cheaper but depends on how you value your holiday time as well

say for example you all taxi to animal kingdom, the weather turns and you descide to leave as its forecast for the rest of the day

you and how many others will be trying to book taxi/uber etc to get away, hanging about the entrance for your taxi in the rain etc etc

or if you had a car you just jump in and go some place else for eats/bowling/cinema or whatever

imo of course

I'm of the same opinion. For me having a car isn't just because it's cheaper than taxis but because of the freedom and flexibility it gives you and it means you don't have to rely on other people.

Each to their own though, obviously if it's going to be significantly cheaper getting taxis than hiring a car and driving it'll be worth considering. All depends on what your priorities are really!

You can use Uber online calculator to estimate prices, we recently spent £289 on ubers, including mco to hotel on arrival. This was for ten days offsite as well as a trip from AoA to aquatica on last day.

We drive around a bit when we're away (typically 2000+ miles), but I am an Uber convert when it comes to Orlando. In contrast to the experience (assumption?) above, we found that leaving Universal when it closed along with everyone else was much faster and convenient than taking the car. We called an uber as we left the park, and it was waiting for us at the bottom of the escalator much closer than the car would've been, and undercover. Nice cool car ready to whisk you away, what's not to love?

We were staying close by, so the two uber trips cost less than car-parking for the day.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.

yes it was an assumption & i used the example of animal kingdom deliberately as its generally the furthest away park from idrive so i assume its the most expensive and would have less taxi/uber in the vicinity

uber works for a lot of people but not for us, see also shuttle buses/disney transport which we did try and never again..

This might sound like a stupid question but if you get a taxi to your resort are the taxis allowed in the resort to drop you? We are in CBR this year which is quite large so just wondered if we are dropped at entrance or in the area of the resort we are staying.
