Sat nav advice
Hi,
can anybody recommend a good sat nav. One that is suitable for the UK (possibly Europe too) and also has the capability to allow US maps to be downloaded. I'd like to pickone up before XMAS in preparation for Florida hol next year. Thanks, Mike. |

I have recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi and that is great. I then bought through a link on the Dibb, a Florida map from e-bay which is loaded with 100 points of interest as well. The best thing is that all in all, it only cost me £150 give or take a few pence.
There are a few threads on here that if you search, will give other peoples opinions and advice on a range of satnavs but Garmin and TomTom are clearly the better ones. Steve |

TomTom seem to be the most popular, depends on your budget. I have a TomTom One XL which has an SD card slot so will be easy to add new maps, all you have to do is buy an SD card and download the maps from TomTom website, and the maps are currently on sale until end of Jan 2008, full US mapping is £35 or £40 I think.
May be worth waiting until the Jan sales, see what is on offer and buy maps after this? Some units come with US mapping already on from Garmin and TomTom Garmin 270 TomTom 910 - now discontinued but Halfords have been selling their remaining units for less than £150 but maps will need to be updated I got my One XL from Ebay brand new still with shrink wrapping on for £128, this was £30 less than amazon. Anyone buying a new TomTom check the map version - 7.10 is the latest, if the unit has 6.75 mapping TomTom give you 30 days to use your free map upgrade guarantee - if it works but that is a different story - I am pursuing my free map upgrade with no joy at all!

We just used our tomtom out in California and it was a godsend...
Then again, after about a day of driving around orlando, there really is no need for Sat nav. You also have to be very quick at some motorway junctions, as some of the US junctions get a little difficult to figure out on the screen before you have already passed them, as they tend to be a bit more like spegitti junction then our junctions |
