Best friends' 40th!

So, it's that year when we all hit 40...not sure whether to embrace it or cry! Anyway, I have a group of very close friends although we live quite a way apart from each other now so don't see each other that often. Our 40ths range from December just past to May 2015. Trying to organise for us all to get together about November time in Edinburgh to see Wicked and a wee overnight stay and everyone is up for it.

My 'dilemma' is this...it's my best pal who really wants to see Wicked and I was going to get her the ticket for her birthday (in April). Do I mention the weekend beforehand and tell her I'll buy her the ticket for her birthday or just organise for us all to go for the weekend, pay for our own tickets and then just buy her something else for her birthday? And if so, what? I'm rubbish with presents! Obv want to get her something memorable to keep but what?! I need help!
