Thanksgiving in Disney
Hello! We've realised that we're going to be in Disney over thanksgiving this November and have a few questions as we've not been at this time of year before.
1) How much does Thanksgiving impact on crowds generally? Is it as busy as 4th of July? 2) Is it a bad idea to go to a MVMCP on Thanksgiving day? Our original plan was to go to the party on Thanksgiving but have a lazy day at Disney Springs and our hotel for most of the day beforehand. Does this sound like a good idea or would the party be really manic? 3) Does Disney Springs get particularly busy on Thanksgiving and the days around it? 4) Are there any special character meets or shows that happen in the parks on Thanksgiving? Thank you!

Its a great time to go but does get a little crazy in the run up and on the day. Some parks are quiet and others are not. I made the mistake of going to Magic Kingdom one year and it was... we an, experience!
MVMCP is always busy anyway no matter what day, so remember to take your seat early for the parade and its always better to do the later parade imho. Enjoy the atmosphere, the crowds make it fun. Generally about 3-5 days before thanksgiving it gets gradually busy, keep an eye out for the large family groups sporting the same jumpers or t-shirts Have a great time, we fly on the 9th so will be there the same time

We were there for Thanksgiving in November just gone. Neither of us are great lovers of crowds so we avoided them as much as we could. We had breakfast at the wave, then headed to the premium outlets at vine, back to the hotel for the afternoon around the pool, BOG dinner (happened to be our anniversary too) then stayed for the fireworks but we stood by the xmas tree on main street. crowds were noticeably busier in the run up, although the weekend before was quiet, started from Monday.

Thank you for your replies! We're now thinking of going to a waterpark (if it's warm enough) on one of the days close to Thanksgiving. Do you think this would be a good idea or do they get really busy as well as the parks?

We went over Thanksgiving 2017 and our first week we didn’t need any sun lotion and towards the end of the first week it was absolutely bitter. The second week, just after Thanksgiving was much better weather wise, so it might be best having a backup plan for a water park day just in case it was too cold.
As far as I know Disney have a set amount of tickets for each MVMCP and whilst they will probably all sell for that date the same could happen on any of the dates. We found the parks very busy in 2017 but I would go back in a heartbeat if the dates suited us.

We've been out around Thanksgiving for our last few trips but have usually flown home on the actual day.
Everywhere but in particular the parks will get noticeably busier the week of TG, usually from the Monday. There are usually no Christmas parties the week of TG so if attending one is on your list, you will have to do that the week before or after depending on your plans. We are back over this year & have decided to stay for TG so that we can see the Candlelight Processional.
