Last-minute August trip?
So we were thinking this year of not booking a holiday and then seeing what we could get last-minute (late August) to Spain or Italy a few days before.
But then I wondered if anyone has ever got a real last-minute deal to Florida? Wouldn't bother with parks or anything, just a quick cheeky week there. Anybody had any success in this?

Yes, but in 2005 and September. Hotel, flights and transfers for less than £500 per person.
We've tried it once since and due to work stresses, Mrs Thorpy became in need of a holiday and she became so irritable that I wasn't willing to push matters to the end. We booked in May "ish" for August, so in the expensive time, not late enough to become cheap ! As it happened she found a new job which started when we came back, so she knew she wasn't going back to that old job. It turned out to be a great holiday as I really did get the happy other half I know and love back! The key is a willingness on all parties to decide to not go if the right price doesn't turn up.

Tui had some good deals for the end of August last year, especially if just going for a week.
Sometimes only 2 or 3 seats left so you'd have to be quick. The cheapest were returning after schools had gone back of course. |

Not late enough for me, but glad to hear the holiday did as it should! I think you're right, and we're pretty willing not to go. It's definitely a "only if it's really cheap" idea!
Wow, that is cheap! If I got something like that I'd be over the moon! We'd be pretty flexible on location too - especially if not doing parks. We're thinking the week before the bank holiday Monday - just to get the extra day tacked on for flexibility etc. Sounds like it might become a possibility then.
